What it is
A dental implant is a small titanium post placed in the jawbone where a tooth is missing. Once it has bonded with the bone, a crown is fixed on top. The result looks, feels and works like a natural tooth.
Who it's for
Adults missing one or more teeth, people tired of loose dentures, and anyone who wants to avoid grinding down healthy teeth for a bridge. Good general health and enough bone are needed; if bone is thin, grafting may be an option.
What to expect
- 1
Consultation and digital X-rays. We check your bone and gums and explain the plan and cost.
- 2
Implant placement. A short procedure under local anaesthetic. Most people are back to normal the next day.
- 3
Healing. Usually 3 to 4 months while the implant bonds with the bone. A temporary tooth can often be fitted.
- 4
Final crown. A custom crown is made to match your other teeth and fixed in place.
Aftercare
Brush and floss as normal, attend regular check-ups, and avoid smoking, which slows healing.
